Captain Ball

Our primary tasks given by Malaysian Care at Youth Junction (YJ) was to engage in at least two games of captain ball on Wednesdays (4:30pm to 5:30pm) and (6pm - 7:30pm) and optional training activities on Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm. This initiative was an original program by YJ to implement relationships between refugees and local children in the surrounding area. In the game, we observed that the teams were randomly divided without any discrimination to the refugees or the locals. Leadership skills were also integrated into the game as a leader from each team was chosen in order to encourage communication amongst team members, designate specific roles and strategic play.
Training activities focused on the older group of teens conducted on Thursday is more serious as they are preparing for upcoming competitions, which enables them to have a sense of discipline and purpose. From what we have observed, this initiative taken up by the team working at YJ has created an effective response in terms of building better relationships with refugees and the locals as the children appear to be on good terms with each other.
